At the start of beamtime, new users will undergo Sector Training that is specific to 12-ID-C.
The beamline staff will administer this training to the users once they are present at the beamline. This covers the use of labspace, experimental hutch safety, and computer use at the beamline. Retraining is required every two years.
Beamline staff will also orient users with the sample area, assist with software set up, demonstrate how to collect data and run in-situ analysis, and troubleshoot as needed.
Shipping user samples back to home institutions can be done by beamline staff. Review out-going Shipping Instructions and fill out the required Shipping Form so beamline staff can get samples, tools, and electronics safely shipped back to the home institution.
Users should take their waste back with them to their institutions if possible. If this is not an option, this Waste Form needs to be filled out by the user for beamline staff to dispose of user waste. Leaving unlabeled waste at 12-ID-C could result in a user not being invited back to the beamline.
Data can be transferred through Globus or APS ftp server.
Remember to fill out and submit 'End of Experiment' form once it is received and review Citation & Acknowledgment Guidelines for publications.
Some experiments utilize the lab only and do not run with the x-ray beam; these are called No X-ray Experiments.
Because all experimental work needs to be reviewed for safety, ESAFs are necessary for experiments even when they do not use beam.
Remember to submit your ESAF 7-10 days before your experiment date
- see Experimental Safety Assessment Form (ESAF)
Be sure to check the 'No XRay' box when filling out your ESAF.
